Marcus Füreder spent the 1990s working the turntables in clubs, an activity that soon expanded into studio production and the founding of his own imprint. In 2001 he issued the album Shadow Kingdom under the Plasma moniker on the Bushido label he had established. Several years afterward he adopted the enduring alias Parov Stelar, a name attached to a prolific run of releases throughout the 2000s and 2010s, most of them appearing on his Etage Noir imprint. The electro swing style he developed, built around inventive sampling, found a receptive audience within the world of compilations and DJ mixes, among them Stéphane Pompougnac’s Hôtel Costes series. By the middle of the 2010s Stelar had collected multiple Amadeus Austrian Music Awards, three of which arrived in 2013 for Best Electronic Act, Best Live Act, and Best Album, the last honor going to The Princess. Both the Parov Stelar Trio and the Parov Stelar Band maintained an active touring schedule that included appearances at Glastonbury and Zurich OpenAir. In 2013 he signed with Island for The Art of Sampling, his second album to reach the Top 10 of the Ö3 Austria Top 40 chart. The Demon Diaries appeared two years later.
