Biography
Emerging from the French deep house scene, Cédric Steinmyller, known professionally as Klingande, captured significant notice in 2013 upon releasing the single "Jubel," which climbed into the upper reaches of the French singles chart. Continuing to thrive in club environments, he has delivered remixes for Clean Bandit, Wyclef Jean, and Sigma while also putting out additional tracks under his own name, such as the 2015 release "Riva (Start the Game)."
Hailing from Croix in the Nord region of France where he was born in 1991, Steinmyller first developed a passion for music during his early school years in the northern part of the country. Upon completing secondary education, he dedicated a year to musical studies at London's Point Blank Music College and subsequently came back to his homeland. There, he linked up again with his old schoolmate Edgar Catry, a pianist, as they discovered common ground in their enthusiasm for house music acts including Bakermat, Nico Pusch, and Swedish House Mafia. The pair established Klingande—meaning "chiming" in Swedish—in 2012 and commenced collaborative production efforts. Labeling their distinctive piano- and saxophone-oriented style "melodic house," they put forth "Punga" as their debut single, which received favorable online feedback. Yet it was the follow-up, "Jubel" from 2013, that propelled them toward broader recognition, achieving Top Five status not only in France but across additional European territories like the U.K. and Sweden, ultimately earning gold or platinum certifications across seven nations. After handling a remix for Clean Bandit's "Extraordinary" in 2014, Catry departed, leaving Steinmyller to proceed independently under the Klingande moniker as a DJ.
Transitioning to solo work, Steinmyller put out "Riva (Start the Game)" in 2015 as his initial release without a partner. The track incorporates harmonica along with vocals from the French singer Broken Back and achieved Top 20 placements in eight different countries, notably securing platinum status in Italy. Subsequent offerings encompassed "Losing U" in 2016, "Pumped Up" in 2017, and "Rebel Yell" featuring Krishane in 2018. In 2019 came "The River," which includes a contribution from Jamie N Commons.
