Biography
Maurizio Colella, operating under the EDX alias, is a Swiss DJ who has crafted and performed tuneful, summery house music since the mid-'90s. A string of singles across ten years preceded his first official studio album, On the Edge, which appeared in 2012, with Two Decades arriving in 2017.
Born in Zurich, Switzerland, to Italian parents, Colella immersed himself in house during the '90s and drew influence from American producers such as David Morales and Armand Van Helden, as well as British DJs like Carl Cox. Early work focused on DJ sets before he began issuing house recordings near the decade's close, frequently alongside Leon Klein, through Energetic Records and Club Control. Several mix CDs followed on Energetic, both solo and with Klein, most often within the Evolution and Energy collections.
A brief hiatus began around 2005, yet he resumed in 2007 and pivoted toward progressive house rather than traditional styles. Remixes for Dubfire, Deadmau5, and Armin van Buuren appeared, along with numerous singles on PinkStar, Toolroom Records, and other labels. He introduced the popular radio show and podcast No Xcuses while holding a residency at Ibiza superclub Space in 2011.
Armada issued the double mix CD No Xcuses - The Violet Edition that year. The following year brought the debut full-length On the Edge, followed two years later by a remix album. Further singles emerged on disco:wax and Spinnin' Records, and he reworked tracks by Robin Schulz, Sam Feldt, and Lika Morgan.
His second album, the aptly named Two Decades, surfaced in 2017. Remixes continued with versions for Charlie Puth, Janelle Monáe, and David Guetta. In 2019 he released the singles "Who Cares" and "Off the Grid," the latter featuring Amba Shepherd.
