Biography
Hailing from Sweden, Mikael Persson operates under the stage name Mike Perry as a DJ and dance music producer whose breakthrough came with the single “The Ocean.” While employed as a serviceman at Volvo’s facility in the town of Skövde, Persson treated music as a pastime during off-hours. Teaming up with singer/songwriter Shy Martin and Nirob Islam from the electro-pop group Sodra Station, he developed the track—an energetic dance number built around warm, summery synth textures, driving electro rhythms, and captivating vocal lines. Intent on keeping the production straightforward, Persson sought to capture the essence of contemporary dance music through minimal arrangements that still delivered strong uplifting energy. Surprised by its sudden traction, he watched the song accumulate more than nine million streams within six weeks and ascend to number one domestically while reaching the Top 40 in multiple other European territories. The unexpected success prompted additional live bookings and led to a contract with Sony Music Entertainment. On the Billboard Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart, “The Ocean” peaked at number 11. Subsequent releases included the singles “Inside the Lines” alongside Casso, “Talk About It” with Hot Shade, and “Body to Body” featuring Imani Williams. In 2018 he issued “Rocksteady” with Dima, “California” uniting Hot Shade and Karlyn, and “Don't Hide” featuring Willemijn May, followed in early 2019 by “Rise and Fall” with Cathrine Lassen.
