Biography
Lodewijk Fluttert produces under the Bakermat alias and specializes in buoyant house tracks that blend fluid guitar and saxophone lines with sampled elements from soul, gospel, and disco. Since entering the scene in 2012, his work anticipated the tropical-house and melodic-house styles that later dominated mid-decade playlists. While enrolled at the University of Utrecht, the eighteen-year-old Fluttert encountered deep house and began creating his own material. After quickly grasping both DJ and studio techniques, he issued the 2012 cuts “Zomer” and the Martin Luther King-sampling “Vandaag,” which attracted notice from multiple electronic labels and led to a contract with the dance agency Soulmax. The Uitzicht EP surfaced on Soundplate Records in 2013 and registered modest European chart entries, yet the real breakthrough occurred when Sony-affiliated B1 Recordings reissued “Vandaag” as “One Day (Vandaag)” in 2014; the track climbed into the top five across several territories, topped the French singles chart, and broadened his recognition. Major DJ engagements ensued, and his melodic, jazz-inflected house drew sizable audiences, including a slot at the EDM festival Tomorrowland. That same year the Dutch label Deep Soul released the gospel-inspired single “Teach Me,” which received a remix from Detroit-born house pioneer MK (Marc Kinchen). A more pop-oriented follow-up, “Games,” arrived in early 2016 and featured vocalist Marie Plassard. Subsequent months yielded the paired release “Ballade” b/w “Gone,” the Alex Clare collaboration “Living,” and the track “Dreamreacher.” Two further recordings—“Baby” and “Don't Want You Back” with Kiesza—appeared in 2017.
