Biography
Tep No emerged in the mid-2010s as a prolific Canadian producer, DJ, and electronic artist whose initial releases carried an aura of mystery and anonymity. He supplied a steady stream of understated yet memorable tracks, among them the 2014 single “The Last Ones Standing” and the 2017 release “Eighteen,” both shaped by a restrained club aesthetic that echoed the tropical-house approach of Kygo.
Beginning in 2014, he issued further singles that incorporated electric guitar and breathy male vocals alongside electronic elements, all while withholding any details about his personal history or identity. After enlisting vocalist Jessica Hart for the 2015 cut “A Different You,” he went on to produce her song “Soul Phazed” and expanded his reach by creating remixes for fellow artists even as he built his own catalog. In 2016 he joined the roster of Ultra Records, where “The Best Crew” reached the Billboard streaming charts; two additional streaming successes, “Swear Like a Sailor” and “Is It Too Much That I’m Asking For,” soon followed.
Performances alongside San Holo, Steve Aoki, and the Chainsmokers sustained his visibility, and later 2017 releases such as “Eighteen” and “Toluca Lake” each accumulated millions of streams. His production work gained further momentum in 2018 through remixes of tracks by Jesse McCartney and Freya Ridings, while his own songs “Who We Are” and “Fighting” also registered substantial streaming figures.
