South African dance duo Goldfish fuse jazz backgrounds with energetic electronic sounds incorporating acid jazz and trip-hop elements. Formed in Cape Town by Dominic Peters on keyboards, bass, and production alongside David Poole handling sax, flute, and production, the pair first connected during college jazz studies. Drawing from that foundation plus the rhythms of local African music, they fused lively party tracks with live playing that echoed the approaches of Fatboy Slim, Hot Chip, Morcheeba, and Us3. Their debut album, Caught in the Loop, appeared in 2006 and delivered a hazy lounge atmosphere comparable to a Buddha Bar collection. The 2008 follow-up, Perceptions of Pacha, drew from a prized residency at the Ibiza venue and featured the hit single "Fort Knox," earning the duo a record number of South African Music Awards nominations in 2009. Get Busy Living, released in 2010, showcased vocals from Sakhile Moleshe, Emily Bruce, and Monique Hellenberg. More driving than earlier work, it claimed Best Global Dance Album at the 2011 SAMAs. A 2012 collaboration with Morning Parade on "Washing Over Me" reached number one in South Africa. Their fourth album, Three Second Memory, came out the following year and brought Hellenberg and Bruce back into the fold while adding singer John Mani. Late Night People, the eagerly awaited fifth album, surfaced in October 2017.
