Born on June 20, 1967, in Ceske Budejovice, Petr Kolár developed his career as a romantic rock balladeer while remaining based in the Czech Republic. Initially trained as a percussionist, he relocated to Prague in 1993 and secured singing roles in musical theater productions there, appearing in Dracula, Hamlet, The Three Musketeers, and Excalibur. During this period he also performed as a member of the Czech bands Precedens and Arkain while collaborating with prominent local figures such as Karel Svoboda, Lucie Bílá, and Karel Gott. Kolár launched his solo recording career with the 2005 release of his debut album, Album, then issued V Lucerne the following year. In 2007 he delivered the Top Ten-selling Bez Kridel and sustained a schedule of sold-out performances throughout the Czech Republic.
