Founded in 1996 at the Kosice Conservatory by bassist Vilo Gutray alongside brothers Igor, Roman, and Ivan Timko, No Name started out as a quartet of student songwriters. Early festival appearances remained modest until the group captured first place in a contest spotlighting original Slovak pop material, which in turn secured their role as national delegates at the regional Bratislavka Lyra festival and brought wider attention. The rapid ascent nevertheless drew repeated criticism, with detractors attributing the band’s visibility to an undemanding blend of pop tunes and cover material.

To counter the commentary, the musicians withdrew for a period of sonic reinvention that included the addition of keyboardist Zoli Sallai; they resurfaced in 2000 with Pockam Zi Na Zazrak, earning both critical approval and sweeps of the principal categories—Best Song, Best Album, Best Band, and Best Production—at Slovakia’s principal music awards. The band next expanded operations into the neighboring Czech Republic, where they met strong approval, enlisted brother Dusan Timko on second guitar, and launched an extensive touring campaign. Their album Cim To Je reflected this new market focus, having been tracked in Prague with the majority of its promotional activities also centered there.

Returning to the charts in both territories, the group issued V Rovnovahe in 2007.
