Biography
Comprising Kena and Nakia Epps, sisters who relocated from Chicago to Boston, along with Boston native Karen Johnson, the group Phajja delivers a light, classic R&B sound. During their teenage years, the Epps sisters dedicated themselves to dance studies with aspirations for careers in theater, whereas Johnson had long harbored ambitions of becoming a vocalist. Upon the sisters' arrival in Boston, their ambitions shifted toward singing. Joining forces with Johnson led to an immediate recording deal, resulting in the 1997 release of their first album, Seize the Moment, on Warner Brothers Records. A follow-up effort, the slickly produced Meeting in the Ladies Room, appeared in 2000, also under Warner Brothers.
