Biography
Elliot Perkins, a participant in the Beta Bodega collective who records as Phonem, shapes ambient-focused productions in a vein shared by certain Morr Music associates. These pieces blend understated melodies, intermittent softened and fractured rhythms, and delicate atmospheric details. His first Phonem outing arrived on Jetlag as The Mechanic Verses. He next aligned with the respected German label Morr Music to deliver Phonetik. Hydro Electric appeared in 2000. A 2001 collaboration with Uwe Zahn, aka Arovane, produced the Valid album Aer, containing several joint efforts plus additional tracks created independently. The ensuing year brought Ilisu, which concluded a loose trilogy of Phonem releases on Morr Music. Perkins maintains a separate alias under the name Spike.
