Carsten Aermes, the German producer and musician known as Phon.O, crafts electronic sounds that range from glitchy textures to hard-hitting beats. After relocating from the rural Harz Mountains in Germany to Berlin during 1997, he initiated his electronic music projects in the city's core starting in 1998. His emergence came in 2000 via the Modul EP issued on Cytrax, the label run by Kit Clayton and DJ Jasper. Subsequent releases on the same imprint included the Typodub EP along with the full-length Partition B in the following year, after which he transitioned to Shitkatapult in 2002 through the Bockflinte EP. One year later came the Mokkastuebchen EP, prompting Aermes to pause his musical endeavors for studies in communication design as well as pursuits in video installations and album cover design. Recording resumed for him in 2005, marked by the "Trick or Treat" 12" and the album Burn Down the Town, put out by Tigerbeat6 within the U.S. while Shitkatapult handled distribution elsewhere.
