Biography
Drawing on post-rock, doom metal, synthwave, industrial, and psychedelic elements, Pinkish Black operate as an experimental rock duo from Fort Worth, Texas, composed of ex-members of the Great Tyrant.
The project originated in 2010 when vocalist-keyboardist Daron Beck and drummer-keyboardist Jon Teague came together following the passing of their former Great Tyrant bandmate, bassist Tommy Atkins. The duo selected the name Pinkish Black to evoke the viscera left on the bathroom wall at the site of Atkins’s suicide, and they issued their harrowing self-titled debut through Handmade Birds in 2012. Later that year Beck and Teague signed with Century Media, which put out their doomy second album, Razed to the Ground, the following year. For their third release the pair moved to Relapse Records, delivering the mercurial Bottom of the Morning—an effort that invoked names like Goblin, John Carpenter, and Tilt-era Scott Walker. Also in 2014 came The Trouble with Being Born, containing the final recorded works of the Great Tyrant. Their uncompromising and despair-ridden album Concept Unification appeared in 2019. Daron Beck died on August 23, 2024, at the age of 48.
