Operating under the Purple Disco Machine alias, German DJ, producer, and remixer Tino Piontek routinely secures club and radio traction through an addictive, rhythm-driven fusion of house, disco, funk, and synth pop. The project first registered in club circles via underground tracks such as the 2013 release "My House," before issuing the guest-laden album Soulmatic in 2017. Mainstream breakthrough arrived with the 2020 European hit "Hypnotized" featuring Sophie and the Giants, alongside reworkings for artists including Ariana Grande, Lady Gaga, Kylie Minogue, and Elton John. Another guest-packed affair, 2021's Exotica, enlisted the Knocks, Elderbrook, Eyelar, and Francesca Lombardo to sustain its dancefloor momentum, while 2024's Paradise continued the collaborative approach with Nile Rodgers, Chromeo, and Duke Dumont among its contributors.
Born in Dresden in 1980, Piontek began producing music and visiting clubs during his teenage years. He launched tech-house and electro-house material in 2005 under the names Stereofreak and the more active Stereofunk, before originating the Purple Disco Machine venture in 2009. Emphasizing disco influences beyond his prior output, the project placed singles on imprints such as Klang Gymnastik and Gris Musique until the OFF Recordings-issued "My House" achieved club prominence in 2013. Subsequent singles and EPs appeared via Nurvous Records, Defected, Kittball, and Spinnin' Deep, as Piontek joined forces with Boris Dlugosch, Aeroplane, and Robosonic; Aloe Blacc contributed to the 2016 track "Counting on Me." After the 2017 singles "Body Funk" and "Devil in Me" featuring Joe Killington and Duane Harden, the debut album Soulmatic surfaced on Sweat It Out! that same year, incorporating appearances from Faithless, Kool Keith, CeeLo Green, and additional guests. An update of the 1986 Hi-NRG track by Man 2 Man and Man Parrish, titled "Dished (Male Stripper)," emerged in 2018, followed by the mixed compilation Discotheque on Glitterbox in April 2019.
Purple Disco Machine gained wider visibility after Positiva released cuts such as the 2019 single "Body Funk" and 2020's "In My Arms," while the producer delivered acclaimed remixes for Fatboy Slim, Mark Ronson, Kylie Minogue, and others. The Sophie and the Giants collaboration "Hypnotized" marked his first major success, reaching the top of the Polish singles chart and attaining triple-platinum status in Italy, where it peaked at number two. Later that year came "Exotica" with Mind Enterprises, centered on a sample of the Italo-disco classic "Void Vision" by Cyber People, which then featured on the 2021 album of the same name. Multiple singles charted throughout Europe, accompanied by the remix collection Club Exotica and a deluxe edition of Exotica. In 2022 Purple Disco Machine supplied remixes of Diana Ross' "I Still Believe" and Lizzo's "About Damn Time," plus the Bosq and Kaleta collaboration "Wake Up!"
The 2023 Kungs and Julian Perretta team-up "Substitution" became another international chart success, succeeded by the solo outing "Bad Company" and a further Sophie and the Giants track, "Paradise." Additional releases included "Something on My Mind" with Duke Dumont and Nothing But Thieves, and "Honey Boy" featuring Benjamin Ingrosso, Nile Rodgers, and Shenseea. The third album, Paradise, arrived in 2024, gathering several prior singles alongside material with Jake Shears, Chromeo, Yung Bae, and further contributors.
