Puya

Puya, a Puerto Rican rock quartet, assembled in the early 1990s. The musicians began by performing cover material on San Juan’s club circuit, then relocated to Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in search of a recording contract. An introduction to Latin rock producer Gustavo Santaolalla secured that opportunity, leading directly to a deal with MCA. The band’s debut album appeared in October 1998, with Fundamental following in January 1999. Delivering an interesting mixture of rock and Latin rhythms, Puya rose to become a top-selling act in the rock en español scene. Its second album, Unión, arrived in 2001.
