Biography
Hailing from North Philadelphia's projects, Ram Squad evolved from neighborhood standouts into prominent national contenders within hip-hop. The lineup features Boy Backs, Tommy Hill, Six 9, and Suave, four young rappers raised in the Richard Allen Project who launched the crew known as Ram Squad—an acronym for Richard Allen Mob. Ahead of their music careers, Boy Backs and Tommy Hill worked as drug dealers, and Hill additionally served prison time for theft.
Those personal experiences of select members shaped the foundation of the group's hardcore style. Taking cues from artists such as Kurupt and Notorious B.I.G., Ram Squad built early local buzz via a series of independent releases: 1996's Operation Lock the City, 1997's Thee Album Regardless, and Ram Squad Raw, each moving more than 30,000 copies inside Philadelphia.
The year 2000 brought the crew's debut major-label effort, R.andom A.ccess M.oney, an unrelentingly raw album aimed straight at the heart of hardcore hip-hop fans.
