Biography
Born as Ramón Orlando Valoy, Ramón Orlando was the offspring of famed merengue bandleader Cuco Valoy and spent his early years performing on keyboards within his father’s ensembles. Participation in that storied outfit opened doors to engagements with several additional Santo Domingo-based acts, which in turn produced an exceptionally prolific output exceeding fifty albums with assorted groups and more than a dozen with his own combos. His merengue orchestra, Ramon Orlando y la Orquesta Internacíonal, attained a level of success paralleling that of Orlando’s father and released multiple albums throughout the Dominican Republic and the wider Spanish-speaking world. Early in 2000 Platano Records reissued their greatest hits collection, assembling the tracks that had secured their renown and prosperity.
