Formed in 2013 as a hard-hitting hard rock group centered on the intricate guitar playing of virtuoso Jake E. Lee, Red Dragon Cartel emerged with Lee at its core. Renowned primarily for his guitar contributions that propelled Ozzy Osbourne to commercial heights following Randy Rhoads’s era through the albums Bark at the Moon from 1983 and The Ultimate Sin in 1986, Lee assembled the initial roster by bringing in bassist Ronnie Mancuso, drummer Jonas Fairley, and singer Darren James Smith. The self-titled first record, captured at The Hideout studio in Las Vegas under the guidance of producer Kevin Churko and boasting guest appearances from vocalists like Robin Zander of Cheap Trick, Paul Di'Anno formerly of Iron Maiden, Maria Brink from In This Moment, and Jeremy Spencer of Five Finger Death Punch, came out on Frontiers Records at the beginning of 2014. In 2018, the band delivered its second album titled Patina, which saw a refreshed configuration limited to Lee and Smith alongside new additions drummer Phil Varone and bassist Anthony Esposito.
