Biography
Emerging as an occasional Celtic folk ensemble during the 1980s, the group brought together Tríona Ní Dhomhnaill on vocals and keyboards, Micheál Ó Domhnaill born on 7 October 1952 in Dublin, Eire and passing away there on 8 July 2006 handling vocals and guitar, along with Phil Cunningham born 27 January 1960 in Edinburgh, Scotland on accordion, and Johnny Cunningham born 27 August 1957 in Portobello, Edinburgh, Scotland and deceased 15 December 2003 in New York, USA on fiddle. Although pursuing successful individual paths, the four musicians blended their Irish and Scottish roots to create compelling fusions. Drawing large crowds across the USA, home to three members, their initial British appearance proved a notable achievement for Northwich, a modest salt-producing town in Cheshire, which hosted the performance in a crowded tent within the community park. The resulting sound combined vigorous Celtic elements with elegant rock influences.
