Since forming in 2008, the Athens, Georgia dance-rock quartet Reptar has energized dancefloors with an exuberant and highly contagious style. The lineup of Andrew McFarland, Ryan Engelberger, Graham Ulicny, and William Kennedy updates danceable electronic rock by channeling Prince’s classic synth-drenched funk alongside the densely layered dance-pop approach of groups such as Passion Pit. Following a couple of years of touring that included attention-grabbing sets at showcases like South by Southwest, the band issued its debut EP, Oblangle Fizz Y'all, in 2011. Reptar then worked with producer Ben Allen (Animal Collective, Deerhunter, Washed Out) on the full-length debut Body Faucet, which appeared the following May via Vagrant. For the next two years the group alternated between touring and recording. Ulicny and Kennedy’s electronic side project released the self-titled album L()()K in 2013, and McFarland and Engelberger issued Blown Breeze, Grown Grass and We Are Part of the Earth with their Athens-based indie folk band Semicircle in 2014. In early 2015 Reptar signed with indie rock label Joyful Noise Recordings. Recorded and co-produced by Andy LeMaster (Conor Oberst, Drive-By Truckers), the band’s sophomore LP, the more crackling Lurid Glow, arrived that spring.
