Biography
Riddle of Steel originated in St. Louis, Missouri, when ex-Five Deadly Venoms bassist Jimmy Vavak teamed with guitarist Andrew Elstner to share vocal duties. Drummer Ken McCray joined for the 2001 Burn EP on the local independent label Ascetic, yet his friendly exit opened the drum seat for Dave Turncrantz. Turncrantz anchored the kit on Python, the group’s first full-length Ascetic release, which surfaced in summer 2003. The record delivered an emo-punk approach driven by detailed guitar textures and the alternating vocals of Vavak and Elstner.
