Biography
Louisville, Kentucky-based punk outfit Coliseum originated in 2003 when singer and guitarist Ryan Patterson assembled the group. Taking its name from a storied Sunn amplifier, the band fused early punk with socially conscious hardcore and captured its first full-length record just months after forming. Issued during summer 2004, the album prompted an immediate reputation for relentless activity as the members logged more than one hundred shows while also cutting a follow-up single and EP within that same twelve-month span. By 2006 the unit had reached Europe and broadened its approach to incorporate additional rock textures alongside melodic post-hardcore influences. Coliseum then joined Relapse Records for its sophomore album, the 2007 release No Salvation, after which the group maintained an intensive touring schedule that carried it through North America, Europe, Australia, and Japan alongside acts such as Rise Against, Napalm Death, Torche, and numerous others. Shifting to Temporary Residence, the band issued House with a Curse in 2010 and Sister Faith in 2013. Throughout these changes the core creative force remained Ryan Patterson, whose ever-shifting ensemble eventually stabilized as a classic power trio completed by bassist Kayhan Vaziri and drummer Carter Wilson. Anxiety's Kiss, the band's fifth album, appeared on the Deathwish label in 2015 and extended its sonic range further into industrial, synth, and post-punk territory.
