Biography
Reggae spreads its reach and its performers well beyond the shores of Jamaica. Ghanaian Rocky Dawuni stands as one more striking case in point. Widely hailed as the Bob Marley of Ghana, he steps onto the scene in 1996 with the critically acclaimed The Movement, issued by Mesa/Bluemoon Records. The clip for “What Goes Around” received substantial airplay throughout the States and rose to #3 on the Reggae Video Chart in January 1997. His 1998 album Crusade, released on Aquarian/Who Dun It Records, spotlights Dawuni’s extensive writing, arranging, and producing talents across every song. The lead single “In Ghana,” supported by a skillfully crafted video, secured airings on radio and television around the world. Dawuni characterizes the track as a tribute to Ghana’s 40 years of Independence. ~ Andrew Hamilton
