Biography
Born in Moree, Australia, to the Gamilaroi people, Roger Knox spent his early years at the Toomelah Aboriginal Mission near Boggabilla. This Australian country singer, known by the nicknames Black Elvis and Koori King of Country, built a devoted following as a performer throughout his homeland and New Zealand. Across his career he issued multiple albums, among them 1983's Give It a Go, 1986's The Gospel Album, and 1998's Warrior in Chains: The Best of Roger Knox, each appearing on Enrec Records, followed by 2004's Goin' On, Still Strong on Trailblazer Records and 2013's Stranger in My Land on Bloodshot Records, the latter recorded with Chicago's the Pine Valley Cosmonauts serving as his backing band.
