Vocals on classic Chicago house productions have earned Ron Carroll wider recognition than his work behind the decks. From the formative years of that Chicago sound, he performed both as a DJ and singer in the company of established figures including Frankie Knuckles, Kim English, and Crystal Waters. A decisive break arrived in 1994 when Little Louie Vega invited him to compose a song for house diva vocalist Barbara Tucker. The resulting single, the Billboard Dance Chart number-one “I Get Lifted,” was succeeded by several more charting releases over the next few years. Early in 2001 Carroll showcased his mixing abilities on the compilation Sessions, Vol. 3 while also supplying vocals for a track by the European disco-funk production act Superfunk.
