Hailing from London, the alt-R&B pair Sad Night Dynamite builds its sound on psychedelic melodies, off-kilter beats, and vocals that merge rap with spoken-word delivery. Beginning in the early 2020s, the duo has issued a self-titled mixtape, two EPs, and the 2024 full-length debut Welcome the Night.

Archie Blagden and Josh Greacen, friends since childhood, spent their formative years in rural surroundings a short distance from the Glastonbury Festival grounds. Although they attended separate universities, they kept exchanging beats and melodies online, later adding vocals until enough material existed to launch Sad Night Dynamite. The pair reunited in the late 2010s and took up residence together in East London. Their first EP, SND 001, appeared in 2020, promptly attracting Parlophone, which then put out the self-titled debut mixtape in 2021. The follow-up, 2022’s Volume II, included guest appearances by IDK and Moonchild Sanelly. Over the subsequent two years the duo focused on completing its debut full-length, an eclectic collection tracing the move from countryside to capital. Fronted by the singles “Sugabby” and “Who Do You Think You Are?,” Welcome the Night arrived in September 2024 with contributions from Yung Kayo, BERWYN, and Aby Coulibaly.
