Songwriter Juliette Jackson fronts the London indie rock band the Big Moon, which draws its primary inspiration from the grunge and Brit-pop acts that defined the 1990s. The group first surfaced in 2015 via the EP The Road before delivering its debut full-length, Love in the 4th Dimension, in 2017.

The quartet came together in 2014 once Jackson opted against pursuing a long-term path in waitressing. Through mutual contacts she connected with three similarly inclined musicians—Soph Nathan on guitar and vocals, Celia Archer on bass and vocals, and Fern Ford on drums—and the Big Moon began taking shape. With Jackson at the helm, the members convened in a rehearsal space located in London’s Stoke Newington district to develop her existing songs.

Self-produced singles “Sucker” and “Eureka Moment” appeared on the newly formed Hard Up imprint in 2015. The latter track, a confident blend of grungy punk-pop whose abrasive yet tuneful style echoed the Breeders and Elastica, quickly drew notice within the capital’s music community. Momentum grew when the band shared an October 2015 co-headlining run with fellow London acts INHEAVEN and Vant, followed by support dates for established artists including Ezra Furman and the Vaccines. These performances attracted the interest of Fiction, an imprint under Universal Music, which put out the debut EP The Road in March 2016. That August the group issued its rendition of Madonna’s “Beautiful Stranger,” a song already a fixture of its live sets.

Fiction released the band’s first album, Love in the 4th Dimension, in April 2017. The record was shaped by producers Catherine Marks (the Wombats, Alex Lahey) and Rory Attwell (Kid Wave, the Ordinary Boys) alongside the band itself. Two months later the Big Moon contributed to singer-songwriter Marika Hackman’s album I’m Not Your Man. Returning to the studio with Ben H. Allen III (Belle and Sebastian, Deerhunter), they completed the sessions that yielded Walking Like We Do in 2020.
