Sergio Franchi

Sergio Franchi, celebrated as a romantic tenor, first saw the light of day in Italy. Across a professional arc that lasted nearly three decades, he earned widespread admiration both onstage and through humanitarian work, receiving the designation “Cavaliery” from the Italian government. He took American citizenship in 1972 and went on to record extensively for RCA, remaining active until cancer claimed him on May 1, 1990. In the aftermath of his death, his widow Eva created the Sergio Franchi Music Foundation, which continues to grant annual scholarships to aspiring vocal students.
