Songwriter and vocalist Shenseea merges dancehall with pop through songs that radiate a distinctive buoyant spirit, teaming up with prominent figures across reggae, rap, and R&B. Her catalog includes multi-million-streaming releases such as the high-energy 2019 single “Blessed” with Tyga, alongside gentler offerings like the 2020 track “Sure Sure” and more classically dancehall-leaning cuts such as 2021’s “Run Run.” The debut album Alpha appeared in 2022, after which 2023 brought featured spots on recordings by the Chainsmokers and Lola Brooke; her second full-length, Never Gets Late Here, followed in May 2024.

Born Chinsea Lee in Kingston, Jamaica, in 1996, she started releasing music while still a teenager, among her earliest efforts being the 2013 collaboration “Tell Me” with Jahmiel. Steady live appearances, brand partnerships, and notable joint projects steadily enlarged her audience, two prominent examples arriving in 2017 with the Vybz Kartel-assisted single “Loodi” and “Rolling,” which featured Sean Paul; that same year she also accompanied Sean Paul on portions of his European tour.

Lyrics centered on diligence and optimism, paired with an approachable stage presence, allowed Shenseea to connect with listeners by addressing everyday challenges inside music that remained upbeat and festive. She remained active through 2018, contributing “Right Moves” to Christina Aguilera’s Liberation album while issuing her own singles “Body Good” and “I Can,” the latter featuring Dani Alo. Early the following year she joined Interscope’s Head Concussion imprint and began shaping her debut project with producer Tarik “Rvssian” Johnston, whose prior credits include Bad Bunny, Shaggy, and Juice WRLD. The May 2019 release of “Blessed” with Tyga marked a major breakthrough, ultimately accumulating tens of millions of streams. Momentum continued into 2020 with appearances on Rvssian’s “IDKW” alongside Young Thug and Swae Lee, on Masego’s “Silver Tongue Devil,” and on her own tracks “Wasabi,” “Upset,” and “Bad Alone.” Also that year came “Lighter,” a sleek single blending electronic textures with dancehall rhythms and featuring Rvssian plus Tarrus Riley. In 2021 she put out “No Limit” and “Run Run,” plus a remix of SpotemGottem’s signature track “Beat Box.” Early 2022 brought the Megan Thee Stallion collaboration “Lick,” which landed on the March release of Alpha; the set reached number two on Billboard’s Reggae chart. Later that year she shared “Rain” with Skillibeng and the standalone cut “Hallelujah.” Guest spots on the Chainsmokers’ “My Bad” and Lola Brooke’s “Beama” followed in 2023, while 2024’s “Die for You” and “Hit & Run” (with Masicka and Di Genius) previewed the arrival of Never Gets Late Here.
