Biography
Calvin Cordozar Broadus Jr. had already established himself solidly as the hip-hop artist Snoop Dogg when a visit to Jamaica in 2012 led him to conclude that reggae represented his authentic direction, prompting adoption of the Rasta identity Snoop Lion. Bestowed by a Jamaican high priest, the name surfaced publicly at a summer 2012 press event that unveiled the first single credited to Snoop Lion, “La La La,” issued through the Berhane Sound System label and shaped by Major Lazer. The song appeared on his initial reggae album, Reincarnated—an apt title—which arrived in 2013.
