Biography
Emerging from the same Atlanta hip-hop environment that spawned OutKast, Goodie Mob, and Organized Noize behind the boards, Society of Soul brings together vocalists Espraronza and Sleepy Brown—the latter the son of a Brick member—alongside Big Rube and producers Rico Wade and Ray Murray. Drawing its core sound from 1970s funk, the ensemble weaves in strands of rap and gospel, the latter element supplied by Espraronza. Some tracking for the collective’s first album, the 1995 release Brainchild, took place at Curtis Mayfield’s CurTom studios.
