Austin-based trio Spray Paint produce a jarring burst of no-wave guitars and pounding beats laced with caustic, sardonic wit. Their sharp, abrasive tracks draw from the grim surroundings of their locale, the presence of homelessness, and widespread disregard for the natural world. The group grew out of the raucous Austin outfit When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth, established in the mid-2000s and responsible for a small number of releases. Chris Stephenson, Cory Plump, and George Dishner formed a separate project after other members proved unavailable for rehearsals. Although less aggressively distorted than When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth, Spray Paint retained an unsettling, angular approach that drew notice across the underground noise-rock community. In 2012 the band issued its first recordings as a pair of 7" singles on S-S Records, each featuring sleeves assembled and spray-painted by hand. The self-titled debut LP, also bearing spray-painted covers, followed on the same label in early 2013; both pressings sold out rapidly while the trio traveled extensively and built an audience. Their second album, Rodeo Songs, surfaced later that year. Upset! the Rhythm put out the 7" EP Cussin' in 2014, and Austin's Monofonus Press released the third full-length, Clean Blood, Regular Acid. The group visited Australia in 2015, where the local Homeless label issued the album Punters on a Barge along with a split 7" alongside Exek. Monofonus also delivered another LP that year, Dopers. In 2016 Goner Records released the band's sixth album, Feel the Clamps, together with the companion EP Bogans & Hoons.
