Embodying glamorous indie pop drawn from the leading classical guitar explosions of the late 1970s, Starlite Desperation also channeled an edge comparable to the most punishing garage rock outfits. Their early prominence arose chiefly from operating without a bassist, which produced combustible textures built around a two-guitar format. The band originated in 1995 in Monterey, CA, when guitarist and vocalist Dante Adrian-White joined forces with guitarist Dana Lacono and drummer Jeff Ehrenberg. After steadily amassing a loyal audience across California’s club circuit and issuing several singles on Gold Standard Labs Records, they delivered their debut full-length album, Show You What, in 1998. The group then relocated to Detroit. During that transition Lacono exited and was replaced by bassist Yasmine Smith. Remaining a trio yet enriched by Smith’s rhythmic command, the California-rooted unit released its second album, Go Kill Mice, in 1999 on Flapping Jet Records. Two years later Show You What A Baby Won't appeared.
