Street People

A New Jersey ensemble fronted by producer Ray Dahrouge placed its debut single, “I Wanna Get Over,” on Spring Records in 1974, yet the track failed to gain traction. Dahrouge promptly moved the act to Vigor Records, where five singles and one album appeared between 1974 and 1977. The lineup consisted of Roy Daniels, Milton Daniels, Tom Williams, Joe Gardner, and Rick Johnson, who recorded collectively as the Street People. Their opening Vigor release, “Never Get Enough Of Your Love,” targeted dance floors, after which “You’re My One Weakness Girl” arrived in 1976. A third effort, “I Wanna Spend My Whole Life With You,” made no impression. The fourth single, “I Wanna Slow Dance With You Baby,” became the group’s signature recording despite enjoying only regional notice. The final release, “Liberated Lady” backed with “Rerun From An Old Time Movie,” likewise vanished, prompting the ensemble’s dissolution. Their lone album, Street People, gathers every Vigor single. Prior to joining the Street People, Joe Gardner had performed with the Valtairs alongside Harry Ray of the Moments and Ray, Goodman & Brown.
