Biography
After the loss of longtime friend and bandmate Mike Scaccia, along with the conclusive breakup of his pioneering industrial metal outfit Ministry, Al Jourgensen withdrew to his Burbank, California home studio in February 2015. There he launched a fresh endeavor alongside his usual engineer, Sam d'Ambruoso. Consistent with the provocateur responsible for the notorious outfits Revolting Cocks, Lard, and 1000 Homo DJs, the material was intended to remain both confrontational and controversial. When presenting the undertaking during a Metal Hammer magazine conversation, Jourgensen declared his aim to create "the fastest record in the history of the world," ensuring every track exceeded 220bpm.
Precisely twelve months afterward, listeners received the initial preview of Surgical Meth Machine via the sample-heavy single "Tragic Alert." Jourgensen delivered on his pledge, embedding every signature element: the sound proved aggressive, profane, politically minded, absurdly rapid, faintly tongue-in-cheek, and, where feasible, more coldly mechanical and inhuman than anything produced under the Ministry banner. Nuclear Blast, the dominant metal imprint, scheduled the self-titled debut album for April 2016.
