Biography
After Skinny Puppy, the aggressive Canadian industrial outfit, disbanded in 1995, Nivek Ogre—the group's signature growling vocalist—began exploring multiple musical endeavors. He collaborated with producer Mark Walk (Pigface, Ruby) to establish the project OhGr. Conceived shortly before Skinny Puppy's conclusion, the name remained dormant until the late '90s because of contract disputes tied to Rick Rubin's American Recordings. Ogre had intended to issue the debut album WELT that year, yet it was shelved amid record-business conflicts and egos. Only once his legal ties to the label lapsed in 1999 was WELT retrieved; the tracks received updates, OhGr secured a deal with Spitfire Records, and the album appeared in February 2001. Far more optimistic and driven than during his Skinny Puppy period, Nivek Ogre conveyed clear enthusiasm for OhGr and a strong desire to see it succeed.
