Grendel, the Dutch outfit devoted to electronic body music, first surfaced in 2000 through a self-issued compact disc that prominently featured the track “Strangers,” which quietly gained traction as an underground dance favorite across portions of Western Europe. Germany’s NoiTekk label subsequently brought the group aboard, resulting in the 2001 full-length Inhumane Amusement and the 2002 EP End of Ages. The follow-up album Prescription: Medicide, issued in 2004, registered strongly in underground circles and especially throughout the Netherlands, with NoiTekk handling European distribution while Metropolis simultaneously released the record in the United States. Additional attention arrived via the 2005 EP Soilbleed, whose aggressive cover of Zombie Nation’s German club hit “Kernkraft 400” became a standout. After this period of success Grendel parted ways with NoiTekk and aligned with Infacted for the 2007 album Harsh Generation, again made available stateside through Metropolis. At that point the lineup comprised Jos Tucker (aka VLRK), Marc Martinez (M4RC), and Marco Visconti (MRKO).
