Icon Of Coil

A seasoned performer across multiple genres, Andy LaPlegua previously lent his skills to Detroit hip-hop band LAW, industrial outfit Devils Into Crime, and the punk-metal groups My Right Choice and Lash Out. Born in Norway, he later explored the trance scene through partnerships with Sector 9 and Plastic Life. The perfectionist launched Icon of Coil in 1998 to pursue an experimental industrial direction. Early in 2000, Christian Lund and Melt’s Sebastian Komor came aboard, formalizing the lineup. After signing with European imprint Tatra Records, the act’s debut single “Shallow Nation” quickly exhausted its initial 1,000-copy run within the first month. Additional remixes appeared alongside the EP One Nation Under Beat, securing a release arrangement with electro-industrial label Metropolis Records. The synth-pop oriented full-length Serenity of the Devil arrived in fall 2001.
