God Module

Emerging from Orlando, Florida in 1999, God Module—affectionately shortened by devotees to God Mod—has specialized in addictive goth-techno ever since. Founded by Jasyn Bangert alongside one-time collaborator Andrew Ramirez, the lineup later expanded to incorporate Clint Carney, Courtney Bangert, Jon Siren, Brill, and Andrew Pearson. Although the ensemble cultivated an overtly spooky and frightening visual identity around its darkwave sound, the actual tracks remained sleek, pulsing, and irresistibly danceable, evoking the atmosphere of a vampire-filled S&M venue heavy on piercings and tattoos. The first full-length effort, Artificial, appeared in 1999, after which the group maintained a consistent output of equally infectious nightmare-dance material. This included the 2004 follow-up Artificial 2.0, the EPs Perception from 2002 and The Victims Among Friends from 2004 (later compiled for a joint 2013 reissue), and the two Empath albums issued more than ten years apart in 2003 and 2013. Despite the deliberate creepiness signaled by titles such as Viscera, Rituals, and Seance, Bangert’s talent for memorable hooks echoed the finest early Nine Inch Nails remixes along with the styles of KMFDM, Gravity Kills, and IAMX. The band’s tenth studio album, Prophecy, arrived in late 2015.
