Biography
Surrounded, the spacey alternative rock band from Vaxjo, Sweden, began in 2000 when Marten Rydell on vocals and guitar teamed with guitarist Marcus Knutsson. To realize their lush Wall of Sound they soon enlisted Emil Petersson on keyboards and sampling, Fredrik Solfors on drums, and Jesper Petersson on bass. Pink Floyd, the Flaming Lips, and Neil Young shaped their sound, and the group first reached listeners via the Emo Diaries, Vol. 9 collection. Deep Elm records issued the band’s full-length debut, Safety in Numbers, in 2003.
