Biography
Vocalist Serrina Sims and guitarist Troy Van Leeuwen—known for his work with Queens of the Stone Age, A Perfect Circle, and Failure—launched the Los Angeles hard rock collective Sweethead in 2008. Bassist Eddie Nappi, formerly of Handsome, and drummer Norm Block, previously with Plexi, round out the lineup; both musicians also perform in the Mark Lanegan Band. The group took its name from the unreleased Ziggy Stardust-era David Bowie track “Sweet Head.” Its sound channels classic punk, goth, glam, and alt-rock, anchored by Van Leeuwen’s signature guitar lines and the driving rhythm section supplied by Nappi and Block, which supplies an ideal backdrop for Sims’ sultry vocals. In July 2009 the band issued the EP The Great Disruptors, followed by its self-titled full-length debut that November. Two additional EPs, Reverse Exorcism! and Mortal Panic, appeared in 2013 and 2015.
