Biography
Tamika Scott launched her professional path in the 1990s as a vocalist, composer, and sometime screen performer within the platinum-selling R&B ensemble Xscape. Beginning in the following decade she supplied songs and vocals for numerous Tyler Perry productions while issuing independent recordings, among them the 2019 EP Family Affair.
Raised in College Park on the outskirts of Atlanta, she established Xscape alongside her sister LaTocha during their high-school years. The group became one of the decade’s leading R&B acts, issuing three platinum-certified albums on Jermaine Dupri’s So So Def imprint that together yielded five Top Ten pop singles. After a limited, short-lived Xscape reunion in the 2000s, Scott expanded her work by co-writing “Step Aside” for Yolanda Adams and by contributing songwriting and performances to Tyler Perry’s Daddy’s Little Girls and Why Did I Get Married?, among additional projects. A subsequent, brief gathering of the original members produced the 2018 EP Here for It, issued as a trio under the name Xscap3. Soon after, she put out three solo singles that led to the six-track Family Affair, an EP created chiefly with her longtime associate Wirlie Morris.
