Teitur Lassen, a singer and songwriter born in the Faroe Islands, now makes his home in the United Kingdom. At seventeen he left those islands for Copenhagen, having already fronted a pop/rock band, and turned his attention to composing full-time. Former BMI executive Christian Ulf-Hansen soon took notice and became his manager. In 2003 Universal issued his debut album, Poetry & Aeroplanes; around the same period he supported Suzanne Vega, Glen Phillips, Aimee Mann, and John Mayer while performing more than 300 concerts the following year.

Legal disputes and creative disagreements prompted Teitur to exit Universal in April 2006. His next release, Stay Under the Stars, appeared that May across Scandinavia through Playground Music and was produced by Martin Terefe (a-ha, Ron Sexsmith). A year afterward came the Faroese-language album Káta Hornid. The Singer reached listeners in 2008 via Playground, Edel Records in Germany, and SideCho Records in California, further expanding his reach, while A&G put out All My Mistakes worldwide in 2009. Ear Music issued the live set Night at the Opera in 2010, the same year Playground introduced the studio album Let the Dog Drive Home; Arlo & Betty Recordings later reissued the latter and, in 2013, released Story Music.

Teitur joined classical composer Nico Muhly—already known for work with Björk and the National—in 2016 to create Confessions, a song cycle recorded with the Holland Baroque Society and marking his first appearance on Nonesuch.
