Biography
Terisa Griffin upholds a lineage of R&B grounded in gospel and soul, echoing the legacies of Aretha Franklin, Chaka Khan, and Angela Winbush. A singer and songwriter who grew up in Louisiana and now calls Chicago home, she has issued every album on her own My Naked Soul imprint. Those releases—My Naked Soul in 2007, the paired Soulzophrenic and Soulzophrenic Dance projects in 2011, and Revival of Soul in 2015—span emotionally intense piano ballads, refined house tracks, and laid-back midtempo grooves, underscoring her wide-ranging command. Revival of Soul arrived after she appeared on season three of The Voice, where her interpretations of Adele’s “Someone Like You” and Whitney Houston’s “Saving All My Love for You” helped expand her audience. Beyond concert work, Griffin has written and staged multiple one-woman shows celebrating iconic performers such as Josephine Baker, Billie Holiday, and Tina Turner. She has also taken occasional acting roles, including an appearance in Hill Harper’s The Truth, to which she contributed the title track.
