Biography
In the closing years of the 1980s, Richard Walmsley joined forces with Amanda Glanfield and Paul Carter to form the Beatmasters, one of Britain’s most accomplished writing and production teams. Both Glanfield and Carter had previously built careers composing advertising jingles. Their highest-profile project centered on Betty Boo, for whom they produced the hit single “Hey DJ, I Can’t Dance (To the Music You’re Playing).” Further Top 20 successes followed through collaborations with the Cookie Crew on “Rok Da House,” Yazz on “Stand Up for Your Love Rights,” Merlin MC on “Who’s in the House,” and P.P. Arnold on “Burn It Up.” The trio themselves released two albums, 1989’s Anywayawanna and 1991’s Life and Soul, and subsequently handled production and remix work for Erasure, Pet Shop Boys, and Marc Almond.
