Biography
Formed in the early 2000s in New York City by Marisa Bergquist, Kelly Waldrop, and Rikky Walsh, the Besties craft a tart, sweet brand of indie pop. Originating from Florida, Bergquist and Waldrop grew up as childhood friends on Anna Maria Island before attending college in Tallahassee, where they encountered guitarist Walsh. The trio relocated to New York following their studies and established the group, adopting a bubblegummy punk style reminiscent of the All Girl Summer Fun Band and Cub. Skipping Stones Records issued their debut mini-album Singer in 2006. With the subsequent inclusion of drummer Frank E. Korn, the now-quartet put out Home Free in February 2009 via the Hugpatch label.
