Biography
The Domino Kings, a Missouri ensemble, have established their path through a dedication to classic honky tonk and rockabilly styles. Besides interpreting numbers from influences including Faron Young, Merle Haggard, and Buck Owens, they compose original material in a neo-traditionalist vein. Springfield, MO natives Steve Newman on guitar and vocals, Brian Capps handling bass fiddle and vocals, along with Les Gallier on drums make up the lineup. Prior to uniting, these musicians participated in the local scenes of Springfield and Tulsa over multiple years. Their initial recording, Lonesome Highway from 1999, leaned heavily into rockabilly elements. Issued in 2000 on Slewfoot Records as Life & 20, their next effort adopted a more traditional country sound. The 2002 album The Back of Your Mind saw them reuniting with Lou Whitney of the Skeletons in the production role. This partnership persisted on Some Kind of Sign in 2005, marking their inaugural output for the roots-oriented Hightone imprint.
