Forming a quartet billed as the Epics, Vic Elmes supplied guitar and lead vocals, Ian Jansen handled rhythm guitar plus backing vocals, Alan Ross played bass, and Mike Blakely—brother of the Tremeloes’ Alan Blakely—covered drums and backing vocals. Their run under that name ended abruptly when the group adopted the more appealing moniker Acid Gallery. While still called the Epics they cut a vocal reading of the Rolling Stones’ “Blue Turns to Grey” for Pye Records. A modestly stronger footprint remained from the Acid Gallery period, after which Blakely and Elmes both joined forces with Jeff Christie in his solo project issued under the name Christie.
