Biography
Around 1990 The Friggs made their stage debut in Philadelphia. Guitarist Palmyra Delran, whose résumé already included stints with Dr. Bombay, Ben Vaughn and Pink Slip Daddy, teamed with singer/guitarist/frontwoman Jezebel to steer the all-female outfit toward playful, seductive garage pop aimed at contemporary listeners. Throughout the first half of the 1990s the group issued a string of singles, among them the enduring cuts “Bad Word for a Good Thing” and “Juiced Up,” plus the EP America’s Only Rock & Roll Magazine Parody, whose cover exactly replicated the look of a vintage Creem issue. After relocating to New York and enduring repeated lineup adjustments, Jezebel stepped away in late 1994. Lexi Plum took over the frontwoman role, adapted swiftly, and the band delivered its well-received 1997 album Rock Candy. Delran’s artistic direction and tenacity, together with manager Linda Carbone, sustained the group’s focus and continuity through every transition.
