Biography
In 1966, Los Angeles became the birthplace of harmony pop quartet the Pleasure Fair, assembled by vocalist Michelle Cochrane, singer and keyboardist Robb Royer, bassist Tim Hallinan, and drummer Steve Cohn. Uni Records inked the band the next year, after which session ace Leon Russell’s endorsement placed pop maestro David Gates behind the board for their self-titled debut LP, fronted by the single “Morning Glory Days.” The 1968 release “(I’m Gonna Have To) Let You Go” proved to be their final outing before the Pleasure Fair disbanded; Gates promptly enlisted Royer for his nascent soft pop outfit Bread, setting the stage for enduring AM radio success. Hallinan also appeared among the credited players on Bread’s debut album and subsequently built a separate reputation as a mystery novelist.
